Western Hanover Wood Ministry

Mission Statement

To provide firewood to the needy in west Hanover County who heat their homes and/or cook with wood.

Purpose

The West Hanover Wood Ministry (WHWM) is comprised of members from eleven churches and two community organizations in west Hanover County in central Virginia.  The wood ministry works with local churches, Hanover County Community Resources, and Western Hanover Emergency Action Team (WHEAT) to provide firewood to approximately 40 needy families who heat their homes and/or cook with wood, but do not have the means to purchase firewood.

The wood ministry seeks out hardwood donations from local families and businesses that can be cut, split and delivered to our families.  Four of our churches have established wood yards on their premises to help support our community efforts.  The WHWM success is only made possible by the magnanimous time, equipment, supplies and effort donated by its volunteer members.  For the 2010-2011 winter season a total of 195 wood deliveries were made to 43 families as of June 30, 2011.  To date for the 2011-2012 wood burning season the WHWM has delivered 137 loads of wood to our 39 families (as of 2/8/2012).

If you feel called to work with the Fork Church Wood Ministry or if you have wood to donate please contact Jesse Gordon.
